Welcome to Lil Aussie Posse
We are located in Norfolk, Virginia. Part of the Hampton Roads area. We are a hobby breeder. Occasionally we have puppies available. Our dogs are part of the family. They live in the house with us. Their puppies are born in our home and raised underfoot. We would not have it any other way. They are the same dog, which ever name you choose to call them by... Miniature Australian Shepherds, Miniature American Shepherds, Mini Aussies, Mini Ameris. Good selective breeding has brought the size down from the larger Australian Shepherd. They are the same dog, smaller size. Regardless the registry and there are several registries for them as well. Enough to make your head spin and feel very confused. AKC, ASDR, NSDR, MASCA, NAMASCUSA, MASCUSA, IMASC, UKC and more. All said and done they all have the same origin. Breed Standard remains the same through out the different registries. Their heritage remains the same as well.
Dogs have always been a part of loved ones in our family. Our goal is to produce healthy, beautifully correct dogs with great temperaments that are easily trained. We strive for each generation to be an improvement over the previous. It has been quite a journey and we have many challenges ahead of us. We look forward to and welcome them. Some will fill us with pride and joy while others will hold disappointment. We have learned a lot from our disappointments, mostly to expect them. It makes us appreciate those high moments so much more.
Anyone can breed two dogs and have a litter of pups. But this picture sums it all up. Well socialized puppies with great temperaments, that is our goal. Conformation and improving within the breed standard is also important. We attend workshops and seminars. We educate ourselves with home study courses. There is always one book or another on the nightstand about dogs in some form in the process of being readk. Genetics, Conformation, Breeding, Medical Science, Training Techniques, there is always more to learn! Our dogs are all tested and cleared for breed specific DNA testing, as well as eye CERF's, OFA's. We attend training with our dogs. We are working on CGC's. (AKC Canine Good Citizen) Our dogs all get a variety of classes to participate in to see where they excel. Everything including obedience, therapy dog, nose-work, agility and more. It is a costly endeavor, but that is what it means to be a responsible breeder.
All in summary, We are always looking for ways to improve our knowledge and provide healthy well adjusted dogs to new owners. Upon request we would be more than happy to provide you with references.
